by Michael Wells I am heading into NYC and must be on my way. Brady is doing quite well. He had an excellent Sunday with no temperatures. In fact, he slept until 10:00am and even took a nap in the afternoon. His blood counts are improving every day and yesterday he did not have to receive platelets as his count was 45,000. The best part NO diarrhea! Also, the red pimple-like bumps are going away, Yeah!! So, as I say good bye to Brady’s’ septic emboli I too must leave; I will write more this evening until then; he needs all the prayers, hugs and good thoughts you can give him.PLEASE HELP… The Blood Drive scheduled for this Sunday only has 15 people signed up and they need 100 people. If you were planning on going please schedule your appointment today! I have some GREAT news to share! Several weeks ago Sherrie and I were HLA typed to see if either one of us could be a possible bone marrow donor. Well, look out world Brady is going to have his Da, Da’s bone marrow. Yes, I am a perfect match and we are both absolutely blown away with this fantastic outcome. Friday, I’m off to CHOP for pre-certification tests and finding out all the details. There is one detail I know and Sherrie is ecstatic about; she will be giving me several injections in of my buttock! I guess I better start being nice to her. I will keep you all posted as these developments unfolds. Brady has been afebrile all day long and we are hoping to be out of this place by Thursday of this week! I told you I had some good news to share. We still don’t know when he will have his bone marrow biopsy performed but it sure will be FANTASTIC to get home!!! So, let’s me keep this entry short and sweet; Brady is doing so much better and we found a bone marrow donor who will be available for as many transplantations as Brady may need. I am absolutely convinced your prayers, thoughts and hugs are responsible for this GREAT news so please continue them…
“8 Years Later—Still No Cure for Pediatric Cancer” is a series of posts revisiting the journal kept by Sherrie and Michael Wells during the cancer diagnosis and treatment of their son, Brady Michael. Hopefully these entires will provide an understanding of the journey families face when dealing with these horrific diseases and of the important work the Hugs for Brady Foundation does.
