by Michael Wells There are relatively few days in a person’s life that are indelibly marked in the essence of one’s soul; today was one of those for me. I was blessed to be placed in a position to help my son win his battle against cancer. This situation was created by “Mother Nature” and there was not much of a decision involved in helping Brady. I was inconvenienced for a couple of days and for this I have received untold amounts of praise for which I truly deserve very little. However, there is one person who has made personal sacrifices that are truly heroic. Brady is extremely fortunate to have a Grandmother who defines heroism every single day. Grandma Janice has been taken a leave of absence from her job; she has been at Brady’s side every day for hours on end. This past week end the basement in her home was flooded, 5 huge trees were up rooted on her property, and she never even suggested she might need to leave Brady’s side to tend to her personal business. Janice Sivco is one of the finest people I have ever met and she is my hero. More importantly she is Brady’s Grandma and he is a very blessed baby to have such an unselfish, loving and devoted Grandmother. After 2 days; and 10 hours the photo insert is the result of my efforts – peripheral blood stem cells. It looks like blood to me but tomorrow before the end of the day they will help Brady beat cancer. Until then, your prayers, hugs and good thoughts are needed more than ever.“8 Years Later—Still No Cure for Pediatric Cancer” is a series of posts revisiting the journal kept by Sherrie and Michael Wells during the cancer diagnosis and treatment of their son, Brady Michael. Hopefully these entires will provide an understanding of the journey families face when dealing with these horrific diseases and of the important work the Hugs for Brady Foundation does.
