by Michael Wells If you’re a reporter; it must be easy to write about an event; a fire, a burglary, a crime. But it must be extremely difficult to write a story when nothing is happening. This is the way I feel. When our beautiful son Brady was a live it was easy to write about his daily adventures; his medical procedures, his physical condition, the doctors prognosis, and of course Brady’s unbelievable personality. Now that he’s gone, writing (living) is just so much more difficult. Yesterday, Sherrie and I were grocery shopping and ran into Jessica Gondek one of the family members and owners of Confectionately Yours and she shared with us the following aphorism; “When a wife dies the husband becomes a widower, when the husband dies a wife becomes a widow, when a child’s parents die the child becomes an orphan but when a baby dies, the parents become??? The pain is so great there is no single word to define you”. However true, I think what Mark the Shark’s Mom (Tracey Levine) wrote at the time of Mark’s passing defines what this experience is like quite accurately; “There are no words, only love.” I miss Brady ever so much. Today, we enter the final phase of this journey and while it is just wonderful to see my family and friends it’s as if I am walking in a cloud with cotton balls stuck in each ear. I am physically here but emotionally in a different universe. While Brady is no longer with us physically, we will do everything we can to keep his memory alive and with it help other kids with cancer. Right now I just hope we can get through the next 2 days! Sherrie and I have so many people to thank but not today. Please pray, hug and think good thoughts to honor our son Brady. Thank you…“8 Years Later—Still No Cure for Pediatric Cancer” is a series of posts revisiting the journal kept by Sherrie and Michael Wells during the cancer diagnosis and treatment of their son, Brady Michael. Hopefully these entires will provide an understanding of the journey families face when dealing with these horrific diseases and of the important work the Hugs for Brady Foundation does.
