by Michael Wells Brady had a rough day. His white blood count is down to 0.7 and he developed a temperature. His temp hit 102.4 and he is on 3 different types of antibiotics. He’s trying to sleep now and hopefully he will keep his temp at the last reading of 99.0. Sherrie is on her way home and I have “the watch”. Isabell is the night nurse and will not put up with any of my antics. I just love her; she treats Brady like he was her own son. A nice surprise tonight; the Mayor and his wonderful wife stopped by with dinner. Italian sausage and peppers, chicken franchise, salad, baked ziti and rolls, wow what a feast. Leftovers from the Democrat post election party which did not turn out the way Frank had hoped but still, it’s the first time I ever received anything from a politician. Ellen came bearing gifts as well; this time a beautiful hand made blanket for Brady. I swear these people are just fantastic. On the way out of the hospital, we could see the two of them holding hands as they were walking away. Very touching!!! Brady was asleep until 2 minutes ago; eye drops and acyclovir (anti fungal) meds. Just lovely – hopefully he goes back to sleep. I shouldn’t complain; Sherrie had the tricky day. At one point, Brady was a degree away from going to PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). This was very upsetting to her and I think she really didn’t want to leave but I insisted. So, Brady better not mess up tonight or I’m in big trouble. It’s time for me to earn my keep and tend to Brady. So until next time, please keep Brady in your thoughts, prayers and hugs…“8 Years Later—Still No Cure for Pediatric Cancer” is a series of posts revisiting the journal kept by Sherrie and Michael Wells during the cancer diagnosis and treatment of their son, Brady Michael. Hopefully these entires will provide an understanding of the journey families face when dealing with these horrific diseases and of the important work the Hugs for Brady Foundation does.
