New Jersey Legislature Honors Hugs for Brady by proclaiming December 7, 2017 Hugs for Brady Foundation Day!
“. . . this Legislature hereby honors the Hugs for Brady Foundation, pays tribute to its meritorious history of service, leadership, and commitment, and extends sincere best wishes for its continued success and vigor . . .” Twenty members, family, and friends of the Hugs for Brady Foundation were able to stand on the floor in the state capital as the proclamation was read aloud and Assemblymen and the NJ Senator shared a few kind words about the foundation. Many members of the audience responded to the Hugs for Brady Foundation with a standing ovation. This is truly an amazing honor and a prestigious award given only to a handful of non-profits on an annual basis and confirms that the state of New Jersey recognizes the integrity, reputation, and status of the Hugs for Brady Foundation. To Sherrie Wells, Founder and Executive Director, and more importantly, Brady’s mom, this is a bittersweet accomplishment. While humbled to receive such an honor, she also wishes from the bottom of her heart that she never had to be in the position that brought her here.
Childhood cancer affects more than 2,000 children in New Jersey alone, and the number nationwide exceeds 250,000 children. It will be because of foundations like Hugs for Brady—their perseverance and persistence—that will facilitate an end to this devastating disease. This award illustrates the hard work and dedication of HFB and its more than 500 volunteers; work that they will continue proudly and tirelessly to reach their goal. Hugs for Brady extends its gratitude to the New Jersey Legislature for this wonderful honor and for its continued support!
Brady passed away in my arms at just 23 months old from this hideous disease. The first year of his life he was happy, smart, beautiful and healthy. Cancer just suddenly appears and even after a very tough battle it takes children’s lives. We need to do more to save our children, we need to fund research, we need to find a CURE
